The
primary goal of Bonhoeffer’s is to reach out to
college students. For those students
who are not in relationship with Christ, we seek to use the tool of music
to serve them as we build relationships that allow us to model Christian
behavior and love. For those
students who have relationships with Christ, we seek to encourage them to
serve through their local churches as Kingdom Builders. In either case, it is our goal and
privilege to positively promote the Kingdom of God among college students
at MTSU.
Although
Bonhoeffer’s utilizes, and is sponsored by, The
Church @ Cross Point, we have a great desire to partner with the local area
churches to reach out to the 24,000 plus MTSU students. This is a bigger goal than any one church
or even denomination of churches can do.
What better way to show true Christian love to these students than
through the cooperation among Christian churches in their area.
Below
is the text from a couple of contacts with local churches. We ask that you read them to understand
the spirit and heart from which we work.
It would be a true privilege to be a partner with your church in
reaching out to the MTSU students.

The Church @ Cross Point began sponsoring a
music venue and coffee house called Bonhoeffer’s
approximately 6 years ago. The purpose was to reach out to the
students of MTSU for the Kingdom but to do so in a non-threatening and
relevant manner. Bonhoeffer’s enjoyed quite
a bit of success but, due to various circumstances, was temporarily closed
about a year ago. We reopened last Thursday night with 2 bands and
approximately 60 attendees.
What Bonhoeffer’s is:
A venue where Christian and non-Christian based bands can play (PG music on
down). A safe but desirable place for Christian and non-Christian
college students to come and enjoy live bands and specialty coffees for
free. A place where people who care about college students and desire
to form relationships with them can come and serve them. A place
where churches who care about college students can gather to enjoy music as
part of their personal ministries.
What Bonhoeffer’s is
not: Denominationally based. Designed to promote Cross Point.
What Bonhoeffer’s
wants: To share this opportunity with other college minded churches and
organizations. To serve your group through providing a place to come
and fellowship. Your bands to play here if you have groups with
college age relevant music. To earn your trust.
What Bonhoeffer’s
doesn’t want: Your money or your students.
It’s more fun to serve God when there is a group. We would
love to have you join us any (every) Thursday night beginning at 8:00pm (first
band usually starts at around 9:00 – you know how college students are) and
ending at midnight. I believe aggressive college ministries will find
Bonhoeffer’s to be a place where they can serve
Kingdom purposes through serving college students.
Email 2:
Bonhoeffer’s is a
venue that gives local bands a place to play and college students a place
to listen and enjoy specialty coffees. The bands do not have to play
in the Christian genre but the music does have to be PG or better. We
use the facilities and equipment of The Church @ Cross Point, a church
located on 610 Dill Lane (1 street behind Mellow Mushroom). Our goal
is to broaden the “ownership” of Bonhoeffer’s to
the local churches and Christian organizations (ownership being about
participation, not funding). While we are restarting (we were located
above Blue Raider Book Resellers for several years) the initial emphasis is
on the Thursday night concerts. Ultimately our desire is to partner
with other churches to create “Bonhoeffer
University” which will teach leadership training and create marketplace
missionaries who will leave MTSU and grow God’s Kingdom everywhere they
go. An additional goal of Bonhoeffer’s is
to create relationships with those far from Christ and encourage them to
form the most important relationship of all – with God’s Son. We do
this in a very non-threatening way and music is our initial entryway.
My main reason for contacting you right now is
to introduce Bonhoeffer’s to you, your music
ministry and the collegiate group at your church. Hopefully Bonhoeffer’s can serve the needs of your college
students we can work together for the greater good of God’s Kingdom work in
Murfreesboro and specifically on the MTSU campus.
I would love to have a time to speak with you about
the Bonhoeffer’s concept and to see how we might
serve your college students.
